A couple of weeks ago I started getting junk text messages from sms.ac (62468). They are of the form “SMS.ac Candice requests more photos! Visit www.sms.ac to add some! Stop? Send STOP to 62468”, but each had a different name in it. I tried to look at their web site, but it doesn't work on a Mac and I couldn’t be bothered to start up Parallels just to look at a spam site.

I looked at my Vodafone bill today, and it turns out that I have been charged 50p to receive each of these bits of junk. (I definitely didn’t sign up to receive them!) The Vodafone billing people weren’t much help — they told me they couldn’t refund me the cost of the messages, and they couldn’t stop me from receiving any in the future. I ended up shouting at the support guy, which is most unusual for me.

I think I’ve managed to unsubscribe by talking to the UK message provider Wireless Info Network (who I found after talking to http://www.icstis.org.uk/), but I’ve been unable to get in touch with sms.ac — their phone number 00800 72203000 goes in voicemail circles.

could you trace it back to anything you've done recently?

btw, have you seen the horrific 'Live Magic' stylee 2012 logo? YUCK!

When I heard about it, I assumed it would be bad. Then when I saw it, it was worse. Quite an achievement.

That's pretty horrible. I would have probably ended up shouting in frustration too. (I bet if someone were sending obscene texts to teenagers they'd find a way to stop *that*. Too bad you couldn't play the "think of the chiiiiildreennnn!" card. :P)
