Films watched in 2010

Sixty seven films watched this year, down from ninety five last year. None at the cinema; mostly from DVD, Blu-ray and TV, with a handful from iTunes and watched on the Apple TV. My film watching fell away in the second half of 2010, as I spent more time watching old TV series downloaded from iTunes.

Worst film I watched this was Lesbian Vampire Killers, which was dire. Highlights were Frequently Asked Questions About Time Travel, which was a delight, and seeing The 39 Steps on Blu-ray — it is wonderful to watch a favourite film looking better than I’ve seen it before.

My mission for 2011 is to rip all my DVDs to my Drobo, so all the films and TV series will be accessible from the Apple TV.

My mission was to do something similar with Windows Home Server, before MS spectacularly shot themselves in the foot by killing Drive Extender. Now waiting to see what the hardware manufacturers do to remedy the situation. Drobo is over-priced (but might, sadly, still end up being the way to go).

Drobo is pretty good on three counts: the build quality is excellent, it is very easy to use, and it is their core business, so probably won’t disappear. True about being pricey, though.

I’m serving video through iTunes at the moment, but I’m ripping all the videos as standards-based H.264/ACC, so the content will be platform-agnostic.
