Cheque guarantee cards will no longer be valid from 30 June this year. I got a leaflet about it with my bank statement in the post today; maybe it is old news, but I hadn't heard about it before. I guess that the few businesses that still accept cheques won't for long.

It is part of the gradual phasing out of cheques; the target end date for cheques is 31 October 2018.

Thinking about it, I don't think I ever guaranteed a cheque by card. Only time I ever used a cheque was when I was sending it by post.

And these days I use Paypal or my debit card for the things I'd send a cheque for.

The only people I write cheques for these days know where I live. I haven't used mine for a very long time.

And when cheques are finally phased out most of those people take cash. The one that doesn't will have to come into the 21st century. (Kicking and screaming I don't doubt).
